What Microsoft Needs

by Steven Snyder on June 26, 2013

Because of my past connection to Microsoft, I’ve been following the news of Microsoft’s planned reorganization as well as Steve Ballmer’s role in directing it.

This morning, I discussed how Microsoft can position themselves with corporate strategies for success on Bloomberg TV.

Here are the high points:

  • Steve Ballmer needs to create an organizational structure that more aligns with the needs of the marketplace.
  • Ballmer needs to revitalize a corporate culture to mobilize and energize Microsoft employees.
  • Microsoft competes in two marketplaces: devices and enterprise business.
  • Two-thirds of Microsoft’s revenues are in the enterprise business.
  • Innovation resides in the device marketplace, and if their device business suffers, their enterprise business will suffer as well.
  • Tablet sales will overtake PC sales by the end of the year.
  • Teamwork and collaboration are essential for Microsoft to compete moving forward.
  • Microsoft must break silos to create a friendly environment within the company.
