Because of my past connection to Microsoft, I’ve been following the news of Microsoft’s planned reorganization as well as Steve Ballmer’s role in directing it.
This morning, I discussed how Microsoft can position themselves with corporate strategies for success on Bloomberg TV.
Here are the high points:
- Steve Ballmer needs to create an organizational structure that more aligns with the needs of the marketplace.
- Ballmer needs to revitalize a corporate culture to mobilize and energize Microsoft employees.
- Microsoft competes in two marketplaces: devices and enterprise business.
- Two-thirds of Microsoft’s revenues are in the enterprise business.
- Innovation resides in the device marketplace, and if their device business suffers, their enterprise business will suffer as well.
- Tablet sales will overtake PC sales by the end of the year.
- Teamwork and collaboration are essential for Microsoft to compete moving forward.
- Microsoft must break silos to create a friendly environment within the company.
